There is nothing that can replace the first hand experience of becoming a mom. Leighton, was the first child to make me one. That first moment was so memorable. So exciting. So humbling. So delightful. The harder I try to explain it, the more cheesy it sounds so you are just going to have to trust me.
Moms, you know my sentiments exactly.
Kids, you think we're silly, crazy, attached and a little emotional. But one day when, by the grace of God, it happens to you, you'll get it. You'll be speechless too.
When I think about the past 5 years (and 9 Months) of being Leighton's mom, it renders me speechless. I literally don't know what to say. So for now, I'll let pictures do the talking.
Happy 5th Birthday Leighton
We Adore You
We are so Blessed
He is so Wonderful
Leighton's Favorite Meals:
1. Shrimp Scampi (He'll say this is his favorite, but it isn't really. He likes it. He finishes it. But it isn't really favorite. He just says that because he knows it is mine!)
2. Salmon (Truly his favorite. He eats more than me every time. And even eats more than Luke most of the time)
3. Quesadillas (Hold the Cheddar. He loves beans and onions in it and just about any cheese but Cheddar. Weird.)
4. Potatoes (Ok so this isn't really a whole meal, it is just a food. But if Leighton had it his way, it would be a whole meal and he would eat a lot of it!)
5. Peanut Butter Sandwich (Just in case you were forgetting that he is indeed only 5, rest assured, peanut butter is on the list. But I must add for the record, that he prefers it toasted, open face, with bananas, and honey on it)
Leighton's Favorite Items of Clothing:
1. Comfy Pants (Unless it is Sunday morning, in which case he will dress himself in a very spiffy church outfit, sometimes even choosing a belt and his watch.)
2. Running Shoes (Because dad has some. Oh and to run with the other kids.)
Leighton's Favorite Things to Read:
1. Any science type book with real pictures and information about animals.
2. Thomas. Still.
Favorite Things to Do with Dad:
1. Yard Work
2. Washing the Car
3. Watching Hunting or Fishing Shows
Favorite Things to Do with Mom:
1. School (He was actually sick yesterday and still wanted to do school)
2. Reading
3. Cooking. Chopping. Mixing. (He can be found with a chair pulled up to the counter watching me in the kitchen)
4. Organizing (Whenever I go on an organizing binge, he is right by my side, fitting, rearranging, carrying, throwing stuff away, and helping in whatever way he can.)
Favorite Night Time Rituals:
1. Reading. (As many books as possible. And don't forget a story from the bible!)
2. Playing Games
3. Bath (He considers it quite a treat. Maybe because I don't do it very often!)
4. Praying and Cuddling. (But keep it brief and don't even thing about joking around about wanting to stay and sleep in his bed all night with him. He loves his bed. He loves his space. So don't overstay your welcome.)
Favorite Color:
1. Red
2. Green
I feel like I could keep going on and on with lists, memories, and stories. He is such a wonderful son and we greatly enjoy being his parents.
