Family Vacation in Minnesota: Boyd Lodge Adventures

To conclude this series of 3 blogs about our vacation, I posted a lot more pictures and few more stories.  I am not sure what the definition of 'a lot' is, but at the close of this post you will have seen 103 pictures of our vacation.  Wow.  And most of them are random but it is often the random, more candid ones, that come with the most memories.

The boys did a lot of wrestling.  If Luke tried to wrestle with one boy, the other two came running to join in the fun.

The cabin was incredible.  Each family had their own floor to live on and Leighton and McCabe each had their own cubbies to sleep in with curtains that closed and their own light switch.  They even shared their little nooks with Brooks for reading time.

Bonfire on the beach.  I can't remember the last time I had a bonfire.  And I especially cannot remember having one that was this action packed.  With six adults, six kids, a bag of s'more items, 2 buckets, 2 shovels, and 1 lantern we made the 10 minute walk to the beach just after sunset.  Perhaps our first mistake taking lots of stuff and lots of kids in the dark to a fire on the beach.  Luke and Brendan started the fire quite easily.  We opened the marshmallows and started roasting them.  And then it started raining a little. I guess our second mistake was not leaving when we first saw the clouds rolling in a few seconds after we arrived in the scene.  But it was just a light sprinkle and we hadn't eaten any of our cinnamon graham cracker, dark chocolate s'mores yet so we kept roasting.  And then it really started raining.  So we stuffed our mouths with the s'mores, while grabbing children, throwing sand of the fire and walking back to the cabin.  By this time it was really dark.  Not only was it dark but we also had to walk along the boardwalk over the marsh in the dark.  And McCabe was crying because he was getting wet.  And remember we only had one lantern.  And remember how it took 10 minutes to walk there, well it also took 10 minutes to walk back.  In the dark.  In the rain.  I could be wrong, but I think it may have stopped raining once we finally made it inside.  I enjoyed a microwaved s'more!  And then we put our bonfire clothes in the laundry.  In fact, the laundry took longer than the whole bonfire adventure.  But at least we got one picture.  And at least we have an awesome memory.

McCabe fishing with Daddy.

Leighton fishing with Grandpa.

Cousin Hayden, Leighton, and McCabe sitting on the couch.

The kids got to put little capsules into water and watch them grow into insects!  Leighton and McCabe cherished those insects the whole trip.

The beach was cold but we were the only ones there.

My sister brought bubble wands.  They boys spent a lot of time chasing the bubbles.

I think Luke and the boys played soccer every day we were there.

We enjoyed vacation as much as we always do.  And we can't wait until the next one!

Family Vacation in Minnesota: Cousins Wedding and Great Aunt Colette's House

After our first 48 hours of relaxation at my parents house (can you call chasing 4 kids around relaxation?) we traveled to Northern Minnesota, where my praises only grow stronger.  Instead of bragging about the one large Lake Minnetonka and its stunning views, I got to see lake after lake after lake in Lake Country Minnesota.

We stayed at Boyd Lodge in Cross Lake Minnesota, which is actually on Whitefish Lake and Rush Lake.  We stayed in a huge cabin with my parents, and with my sister Amber Miller and her family of 4.  You'll see her and my niece and nephew later in this post!

The reason that jump started this whole trip with the wedding of my cousin Josh Bailey and his now wife, Nikki!  It was a beautiful outdoor wedding.  Some how in the the midst of keeping 2 kids quiet while the other 2 kids slept in the air conditioned car with Luke, I managed to miss getting any pictures of the ceremony.  Go figure.  We were glad to be there and wish Josh and Nikki and joy-filled and God-honoring marriage.

Here we are outside before the reception began.

After a delicious brunch at the Bride's Parents' Restaurant, we got back in the car for a trip to see my Grandma, my Aunt Colette and her new Cabin on Woman Lake.  Yes thats right, more lakes.  And if you start making fun of the name of her lake, I'd kindly remind you that Minnesota has soooooooo many beautiful lakes, that they just simply ran out of interesting names to call them.  During our short 1 hours stay there we got to watch the second half of an intense Vikings game, eat dessert, take a generation picture and a few other good pictures and play outside in her backyard overlooking the beautiful lake.

I am so glad we were able to get a picture of the 12 of us.  My how life has changed.  From living under my parents roof as a family of 4 Ludemanns, to wild vacationing as a family of 12 (6 of whom are under the age of 4 1/2) from 3 different states, and with 3 different last names, this picture sure is precious.

My beautiful family with a beautiful lake in the background!

Meet my sister Amber, my brother-in-law Brendan, and their kids Abby (2) and Hayden (3)!

Great-Grandma Beatrice Christensen meeting and holding Wynnlee for the first time!

No we didn't leave Great-Grandma to fend for herself with 6 kids.  We just wanted to get a picture of her with all of them.  It was not easy.

And the last pictures (of this portion of the vacation pictures at least) are of my handsome men playing outside complete with ant smashing, dirt digging, and stick finding.
